D.W. Poppy Socials Department offers a variety of Socials classes for students in grade 8 through 12. The focus is to help students develop into citizens of the world who are knowledgeable about past and current events and to think critically about their position in society. In grade 8 the students are introduced to Humanities 8, a course that combines the Socials 8 and English 8 curriculum through an inquiry based model. This continues into grade 9, where the class separates into Socials 9 and English 9. At present new curriculum is being implemented in all areas of Socials, this year in grade 8 and 9 the teachers are developing new lessons. Next year some of the changes will start to take place in Socials 10 and 11. At the senior level the Socials Department offers a multitude of choices, Law 12, History 12, Social Justice 12, Psychology 12 and AP Psychology 12. In past years we have run Comparative Civilisations 12, Geography 12 and AP History 12 and the department looks forward to making these offerings available again next year.
