Are you passionate about rugby? Want to earn graduation credits playing the sport you love?

D.W. Poppy Secondary, together with the Langley School District, is inviting students with a strong interest in rugby to apply to the High-Performance Rugby Course.

High Performance Rugby is held out of D.W. Poppy Secondary School in Langley, B.C., is open to all students in Langley as well as students outside of the District, including the Fraser Valley and Metro Vancouver. This is the first Rugby Course in the Fraser Valley and one of four in the province.

DW Poppy’s High-Performance Rugby combines provincial curriculum, rugby-centered curriculum, as well as a focus on athletics, health, safety, and well-being. This academy is structured around the school’s values of PRIDE and FAITH: Passion, Respect, Integrity, Discipline, and Effort; Family, Accountability, Intent, Tenacity, and Humility.

The goal of the course is to develop students holistically, as people and as players. Students will experience fun, personalized learning, while being expected to meet high standards of behaviour, and scholastic discipline, and receiving all the support needed to meet these standards. This course is offered to students with rugby experience of all skill levels in grades 10, 11, and 12.

The course is led by D.W. Poppy Teacher and Rugby Coach Stuart Crowley. Mr. Crowley is a respected leader in the school and Langley rugby community. He is a caring and compassionate educator who inspires students and athletes to achieve excellence on and off the pitch.

He has been instrumental in growing the sport locally and has an impressive track record. He has coached school, club, regional, provincial, and USports teams. In 2022, D.W. Poppy Secondary’s senior girls took home the provincial championship title under his leadership. Some of his former student-athletes have moved on to high-level competitive play, professional, and international careers. The Langley community, which has a long rugby history, is excited to see the academy help develop more well-rounded students and elite athletes.
