Hello DW Poppy families!
Welcome to all of our new and returning DW Poppy parents and guardians! I am very excited to let you know about some of the ways that you can get involved in our school. Whether you have one hour to give or are interested in volunteering with one of our bigger programs or events, one thing is for sure – the more parents who get involved, the better our school will be for it.
Why is parent involvement so important?
Getting involved is an excellent way to learn more about what goes on in our school, meet other parents, and get to know our teachers and administrators. Our students also benefit in many ways when parents get involved in schools. Students with actively involved parents are more likely to:
– Earn higher grades and test scores, and enroll in higher-level programs
– Pass their classes and earn necessary credits
– Attend school regularly
– Have better social skills, show improved behavior and adapt well to school – Graduate and go on to postsecondary education
How do I get started?
You are invited to come out to our first PAC Meeting on Wednesday, September 18th at 7:00pm in the school Learning Commons (library). You can learn more about all of the ways that you can get involved, ask any questions you might have, and have a say in how grants and fundraising money is allocated in our school.
PAC meetings will be held on the 3rd Wednesday each month, with meetings scheduled for Sept.18, Oct.16, Nov.20, Jan.15, Feb.19, Apr.15, May 20, and Jun.17. All Poppy parents and guardians are encouraged to attend these meetings.
Also, you can join our DW Poppy Parent and Guardian Facebook page &/or check the school’s website and click on ‘parent community’ for more information and links.
