Many thanks to all of the students and staff who were involved in putting together last Thursday’s Remembrance Day Assemblies at D.W. Poppy. The assemblies were a somber, reflective, and respectful reminder of the significance and importance of Remembrance Day highlighted by the powerful monologues presented by Lizy Miller, Hayden Beer and Julian Waldron as well as Gracey Poje and her excellent rendition of Flanders Field. Our assemblies also featured strong performances by our Senior Choir and Senior Wind Ensemble, as well as our Aboriginal drummers who welcomed students to the assemblies with an Honour Song. We would also like to thank our three Poppy cadets, Jeremy Roersma, Nathan Van Schagen and Molly Atherton-Walby, who served as our colour guard for the assemblies, as well as Will Antle and Shauna Rexworthy for helping in the booth with lighting and sound. Lastly, special thanks to our staff members, Mr. Ablitt, Mr. Follett, Mr. Howard, Ms. Jack and Mr. Yu for their work in putting this year’s Remembrance Day Program together. We would also be remiss to not acknowledge our student body for their extremely respectful behavior and attitude towards this important event and day for all Canadians.
