|At D.W. Poppy, we are very fortunate to have a number of Poppy families and local businesses, as well as our local elementary feeder school PAC’s, who provide financial support to our graduating students through an annual scholarship or bursary. However, our students really need our help as the cost of post-secondary education is continually rising. There is an opportunity for businesses (or individuals) to invest in the youth of D.W. Poppy through the Langley Foundation Scholarship Fund. D.W. Poppy graduates have received thousands of dollars over the years as a result of these generous investments in our young people. However, as the number of Poppy students attending post-secondary institutions has grown, we haven’t had an increase in donors. We felt it was important to bring this need to your attention should you, or someone you know, wish to make a contribution before the end of the tax year in April. This is a great way for businesses and organizations to get their name out into the community. We invite all of our scholarship donors to our annual Scholarship Tea in June where they have an opportunity to meet the scholarship winners and present them with their awards. As well, all of our scholarship donors are published in our newsletters and announced at graduation. The Langley Scholarship Committee is overseen by the Langley School District Foundation. We are encouraging the members of our community to talk to anyone who might like information about this opportunity. Generally, scholarships or bursaries are in the $300 – $500 range. Income tax receipts are available. Donors also have the ability to specify the criteria – for example: financial need, a specific program of studies or occupational area. If you would like additional information about the opportunities available to help make the cost of post-secondary studies more affordable and how a scholarship could be set up with the criteria you identify, please be in touch with myself, Mr. G. Kozlovic, Principal (firstname.lastname@example.org) Ms. A. Blount, Counsellor (email@example.com) Ms. E. Hadley (firstname.lastname@example.org) or Ms. S. Cairns, Langley Foundation (email@example.com).
